Spruce Hill Winery

When this family-owned Washington winery was ready to open a new tasting room, they turned to OOA to design a space that honored their Northwest roots while creating a warm, inviting gathering spot for the local community. They selected an ideal location in the heart of Gig Harbor—a former retail shop with great bones—and OOA set out to transform the blank canvas into a cozy, atmospheric wine bar.

Drawing inspiration from Gig Harbor’s rich maritime heritage, the design balances natural textures with subtle, coastal-inspired details. The material palette prioritizes warmth through natural woods, rich textures, and deep blue accents, complemented by nautical light fixtures that illuminate the space. At the center of the tasting room, the main bar is wrapped in tactile cork paneling—a clever, tactile nod to winemaking—backed by a clean wood slat wall with open metal shelving for bottle displays.

Every corner of the space is designed to foster connection and ease. A custom mural printed directly onto the plaster wall displays a misty forest motif, bringing the moody beauty of the Pacific Northwest indoors. A wide mix of seating options—from sink-in leather couches and intimate nooks to long communal tables—accommodates everything from quiet date nights to large group celebrations. Even the restroom gets a personality-packed touch, featuring a cheeky wallpaper with hidden PNW Sasquatches in a playful nod to local folklore.
